30/04/2019   Bristonas (LTU): Paulius Juozaitis and Austeja Kavaliauskaite won U20 Baltic Championships

Saturday, April 27th the 33rd edition of the Race Walk Meeting dedicated to Antanas Kazevic Mikenas (LTU) was held in Bristonas (LTU), the walker who in the 1956 edition of the Olympic Games in Melbourne obtained the silver medal in 1:32:03 behind Leonid Spirin (RUS) victorious in 1:31:27.4 which then represented the Olympic record.

Mikenas and Spirit competed at the time for the USSR, and the Lithuanian had been leading the race at 15km.
He was then notified by the Chief Judge of a caution (at the time the white flag was shown to the athletes by the only head judge when the athlete had received even one "caution") and preferred to slow down.
So it was that Leonid Spirin overtook him with 3km to go receiveing words of encouragement by Mikenas himself to continue for the victory.
Third came another Baltic, Bruno Junk (EST) in 1:32:12
They were other times.

The organizers of the Antanas MIkenas memorial want to remember this great athlete with this meeting dedicated to young people.

This year the Memorial Mikenas was also valid as the Baltic Outdoor Youth Team Championships of Race Walking.
