23/05/2019   Tallinn 2015 Europeans U23: Maria Ponomareva (RUS) banned four years for doping, bronze to Laura Garcia-Caro (ESP)






Now it's official.

 

Mariya Ponomareva Russian walker was disqualified for violating the rules of doping.

The announcement comes directly from RusAtletics (Federation of Russia) which declares to comply with the TAS/CAS decision of April 11, 2019.

The Russian athlete, is declared in a note of the Russian Federation, was disqualified for "use or attempted use of a prohibited substance" and the disqualification is four years.

 

According to the RusAthletics all sporting results obtained between 8.7.2015 and 8.3.2018 were canceled.

During this period Mariya Ponomareva (1:27:17) had won the U23 European Championships in Tallin on July 10, 2015 in front of Anezka Drahotova (1:27:25) and Lyudmila Olyanovska (1:28:41) who finished on the podium.

Fourth was Laura Garcia-Caro (ESP) in 1:31:52, who today receives the news of having obtained the bronze.

 

Despite the four years of delay, this week certainly represents an extremely pleasant moment for Laura Garcia-Caro: after the silver on Sunday at Alytus in the European Cup yesterday the news of the posthumous bronze of Tallin 2015.
