27/05/2019   A dream of late spring in Coruna

Saturday, June 8, 2019, in the fresh afternoon of La Coruna, sunbeams appear.

Since morning the variability had been the master, and the clouds had been wiped out as usual.

The novelty of this year is the fact that the departure of women is anticipated so that the women's race must end before the start of the males.

Ideal temperature around 19° -20° Celsius.

Many athlete at the start.

The cream of the women's world walk is all here today.

With the new name that has emerged in recent weeks in the European Cup: Zivilé Vaiciukeviciute, with Erica De Sena (BRA) and Claire Woods to represent South America, and Oceania, with Mirna Surely Ortiz ( GUA) and Kumiko Okada (JPN) to represent Central America and Japan that will host us in Tokyo next year.

Many, too many, and also of very high level the Chinese: all titled, all with the desire to win because in China the must is the "victory", of the medals, they say, nobody remember.

Departure at 17.30. The cheering on the Cantones is felt

Hour 17:51.25: a group of red shirts passes at 5km in 21:25. I look at my chrono and start: they are on the pace of the world record.

In that group there are also a blue shirt and a green gold one.

Hours 18:12.40: the red shirts at the top of the race are reduced to three.

Behind them, not very distant, the blue shirt, the green gold shirt and the other three red shirts.

I tell myself that today will be a special day

Hour 18.33.50 always on the rhythms of world records. Between me and myself I say: you want to see that La Coruna still reserves you a great day's walk.

I move to take some photos of the trio and carelessly forget to watch the stopwatch for a lap.

But I do the following ones: (4:11 - 4:11). I hear the speaker who draws people's attention to the possibility of breaking the world record (1:24:38).

Next round: 4:04. The three are in a handkerchief less than a meter.

I feel the sweat with emotion.

The next lap lead to three at the finish line 1:24:27 (with a last lap in 4:01)

I look at the time trial and see the new world record.

Only then I jump from the pillow and realize that it was all a dream.

A dream of late spring in Coruna. And like all dreams about the most beautiful I missed the ending.

And if it was an omen of the future reality?

Who knows.
