The choice of the athlete of the month of June 2019 is entirely part of the results of La Coruna (ESP) where a 20km valid for the IAAF Challenge took place.
Even in Russia, where the Russian road walking Championships took place in Cheboksary, however, there were some excellent results that could certainly have affected our choices, but as usual we do not take into consideration due to the lacking of International race walking judges.
We refer in particular to:
- Sergey Shirobokov - 20km men - 1:19:27
- Yelena Lashmanova - 20km women - 1:27:19
- Sergey Sharipov - 50km men - 3:43:36
- Klavdiya Afanasyeva - 50km women - 3:57:08
This last result, in particular, represents the best performance in the world in the recent history of the 50km women, but will never be approved as a record.
In fact the IAAF in its newsletter n. 204 of 28.6.2019 rejected this result together with the previous one obtained by Yelena Lashmanova in Sochi.
Rejected or unratifiable
- performances achieved in 2019
• Women's 20km race walk: 1:24:16 Yelena Lashmanova (RUS) Sochi 18 Feb 2019
(No international judges)
• Women's 50km race walk: 3:57:08 Klavdiya Afanasyeva (RUS) Cheboksary 16 Jun 2019
(No international judges)
The performances obtained in La Coruna, particularly in men, were of a very high level with an equally interesting number of starters.
For the nominations of the best athlete of the month we have chosen this month the first three athletes classified in La Coruna.
Men category
The score threshold is incredibly high and incredibly short between the first and third athlete.
Date | Event | Venue | Distance | Athlete | Result |
| | | | | |
8.6.2019 | IAAF Challenge | La Coruna | 20km | YAMANISHI Toshikazu | 1:17:41 |

8.6.2019 | IAAF Challenge | La Coruna | 20km | SUZUKI Yusuke | 1:17:54 |
But even the placements after the third place would have been of interest in the past months for the choice of athlete of the month.
Suffice it to recall that in La Coruna from the fourth (Perseus Karlstrom - 1:18:07) to the eighth arrived (Diego Garcia Carrera - 1:18:58) they all woulld have achieved scores between 1.232 and 1.213, and above all with the score of 1.232 (fourth place in June) would have been "Athlete of the Month" in January 2019 and April 2019 and the victory would have been close in February 2019 and May 2019.
However, the June 2019 result is as follows:

| | | |
1. | YAMANISHI Toshikazu | 1:17:41 | 1.242 |
