Some races of the 2019 World Athletics Championships risk being canceled!
We speak of cancellation and not of displacement in the following days.
In Doha, the capital of Qatar where the World Championships will be staged from September 27th to October 6th, it is indeed really too hot and temperatures are literally hot for the first three days of the race with the mercury column that could even reach 48°C at 20.00.
In those conditions it is difficult even to just sit, let alone make a physical effort at the highest levels and in the most important competition of the season.
The news, also picked up by France TV, is that the female Marathon and the 50 km raod walk for both sexes may not go on stage if the environmental conditions were those feared.
For the whole day on Friday the organizers should carry out monitoring and only an hour before the start of the Marathon will take the final decision (the start is scheduled at 11.59pm local time - CET: -1 hour).
The same goes for the 50km road walk scheduled for Saturday at 11:30pm local time (men and women will compete simultaneously).
We sincerely hope that the competitions can take place regularly even if at this point their technical value will certainly be influenced by temperature, humidity and the annoying hot desert wind.
It will be a really tough race.
