24/09/2019   Doha (QAT)- The 50km road cancellation is not supposable

The alarm, late on Monday, had been launched by France Telévision and soon resumed by various media in particular from France, but also by us: «The IAAF - they claimed - given the exceptional heat that is facing Friday and Saturday night could decide to cancel the women's marathon and the two 50 kilometers road walk provided for midnight of the first two days of races».

Someone had even suggested that it was a doctor who supplied this information.

Soon, however, it was understood that this was unreliable news.

So much so that the IAAF itself, a couple of hours later, has denied it: "The IAAF has not considered postponing or cancelling any road event at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 - they said from the international federation -  There are contingency plans for all possible scenarios in place, but none have been activated"

However, the heat and environmental conditions will remain one of the great themes of the Doha 2019 World Championships.
The perception of heat, humidity and sultriness increases compared to the actual temperature, and then in the late evening an annoying desert breeze rises that certainly does not refresh the air, but that makes breathing difficult.

While the competitions that will take place inside the space-age Khalifa Stadium will benefit from its own microclimate facilitated by fresh air conditioning fired by almost 3,000 nozzles that should keep the temperature around 26-28°C, just as it will not be possible for walkers and marathon runners.

The athletes' counter-measures are those that are very simple and imaginable: some night training and going to sleep later to get the natural biological rhythms accustomed to the new reality. In practice what you do with the jet leg after an intercontinental flight.
Hydration will be the main ally of the athletes and we imagine that the supplies will not be skipped.

It will be what it will be.
The heat will be the main enemy for everyone, and these Championships will have a further surprise: those who bear the conditions that we have told you, will win.
