03/03/2020   San José de Costa Rica (CRC) - VIII Central American Race Walking Championships






 

 

 

The VIII Central American Race Walk Championships were held in San José de Costa Rica on Sunday 1 March.
 
The competition was attended by more than 50 athletes from Countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, of which much has been said since they all arrived with very clear objectives including the minimum participation for the Tokyo Olympics.
 
Ten events were held corresponding to the races of 2, 3, 5, 10 and 20km in women and men with an approximate temperature of 17 degrees, and the races started at 6:00 in the morning with the 5, 10 and 20km of the women.
 
 
20km men
 
Gold and silver for the Giatemala.
Victory to José Eduardo Ortiz Flores (GUA), a young man born on 8.3.2000 who will turn 20 next week, and who raced in 1:24:22.9.
Practically smashed the previous personal best of 1:27:18 obtained in La Coruna (ESP) on 8.6.2019.
Second place to José Gregorio Ajcam Caal (GUA) in 1:29:49.7
Third place  to Juan Manuel Calderon Zuniga (CRC) in 1:35:36.8
 
 
20km women
 
It was certainly the most interesting race from a competitive point of view.
Victory to Noelia Vargas Mena (CRC) young born on 17.4.2000 who will turn 20 in just over a month, in 1:37:27.8.
For his part, Noelia Vargas Mena, who won her first race title in Central America in 20 km, indicated that the circuit had made things a little complicated for everyone also due to the heat and wind.
 
Second place to Mayra Carolina Herrera Perez (GUA) in 1:37:42.2 who fought to the last with Vargas. At the end, just under 15 seconds separated the two on the finish line.
Third place to Maidy Emileny Monge Perez (GUA) in 1:40:32.3
