03/03/2020   Dublino (IRL): Kate Veale and David Kenny win Irish Indoor Championships






 

 

 

On Saturday 29 February 2020, the two walking races were held on the first day of the Indoor Championships in Ireland.
Women competed on the classic indoor 3,000m distance while men competed on the indoor 5,000m.
 
 
 
3.000m indoor walk women
 
Only four athletes at the start, but a race full of overturnings and interest.
 
At the beginning, Sarah Glennon (IRL) gave a gutsy effort in leading the 3.000m walk. Her desire for victory finally broke against Kate Veale's will to once again conquer the national indoor title, while Veronica Burke (IRL) acame .
 
Victory to Kate Veale (IRL) in 14:47.05
Second place to Veronica Burke (IRL) in 14:54.68

5.000m indoor walk men
 
Only three competitors lining up, but the race was plenty of excitement.
 
Alex Wright, defending champion, Brendan Boyce and David Kenny ticked off at a quick rate of the 25 laps of the indoor track waited with some risks and consequent red cards.
 
Wright was to the fore early, but then the lead changed and ended up in the hands of David Kenny and Brendan Boyce. Wright went back in fornt of the race but the third red card made him a trip to the penalty area. The athlete refused this decision and walked off the track. He has been qualified.
