As we had announced with our news of March 2, 2020, the Asian Championships were still vague due to the COVID-19.
On Monday, it appeared that Asian Athletics had ordered the cancellation of the Championships. Then a press news from the City of Names clarified things limited the day of competitions to only the two senior 20km. It seemed at this point that the Championships would take place, but a subsequent clarification from the Asian Athletics Association confirmed that the Asian Championships of the 20km road walk had been canceled.
In fact, a more careful rereading of the release of the City of Names definitively clarified the state of the races.
1.- To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the LOC had had to cancel some sections of the race (in practice, the youth and high school races over 10km)
2.- The City of Nomi had not wanted to renounce the 44th edition of the traditional walking race, despite the "Asian 20km Race Walking Championships" having been canceled.
3.- The meeting acts as "14th Japan 20km walking championship for students"
4.- The meeting will also be attended by elite athletes of the National Team of Japan and will be valid as a selection for the representative who should participate in the Tokyo / Sapporo Olympic Games
5.- The Japan Association of Athletic Federations has authorized a 20kms route on a 1km circuit (round trip) with departure and arrival in front of the Neagari Cultural Center in Nomi-shi.
The restrictions of COVID-19 in the territory of Japan require the organizers to use only a national jury, even if it is also made up of one Japanese Judge of Area from Asia Panel.
Any hypothetical world record that may be established, therefore, cannot be approved.
We remember that the current world record of the 20km men of Yusuke Suzuki (JPN) was established right here in Nomi (JPN) on 15.3.2015 (1:16:36).
