12/03/2020   Minsk (BLR): Ecuador selection announced

The date of the World Team March Championships to be held in Minsk (BLR) on 2 and 3 May 2020 is approaching by leaps and bounds.

We sincerely hope that by then (there are 50 days left) COVID-19 will give a respite.
We do not believe in his total defeat as we believe that there will still be some active hotbed at that time, but we sincerely hope that one of the two key events of the year 2020 can be held.

The organizers of Minsk (BLR) need to see their efforts fulfilled, and athletes from all over the world need to meet, measure each other and compete and plan Sapporo.
For now they can only hope and dream.

From today, Ecuadorian athletes who have been selected for Minsk 2020 will prepare and dream more.

However, Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores, who on Saturday (7.3.2020) won his third important 50km in that city on the Miraflores circuit in Lima, will not be part of the Ecuador team. We want to remind younhis past three victories in Lima:
- 14.5.2017: Pan American Race Walking Championships in 3:51:35
- 11.8.2019: Pan American Games in 3:50:01
- 7.3.2020: South-American Race Walking Championships in 4:14:11
Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores showed up at Tuesday's press conference stating immediately that he will not participate in the World Team March Championships.
The sensations experienced in Lima in South America have not been good, probably because of the high humidity (75%) and the high temperature (+30°C) and therefore prefer to focus on preparing the 50km for the Olympic Games where the climatic conditions should be very similar to those recorded in Lima.

However, the team presented by Peru in the World Team March Championship is still of excellent quality.
We like to remember that in the last edition of Taicang 2018 Ecuador obtained very interesting results.
On an individual level in the 10km U20 women Glenda Morejon obtained silver in 45:13
At the team level always in the 10km U20 women the team from Ecuador also obtained silver with 13 points (behind China with 10 points)
In the two senior races also successes: silver in the 50km for the women's team with 21 points (behind China with 8 points) and fourth place in the 20km for the men's team with 47 points.
