22/07/2020   Eu (FRA): Kevin Campion stops the clock in 18:57.40 on 5.000m track walk

From a certain point of view this makes us very happy. Seeing races on any short distance is a reason to see the vitality of trace walking. However, we would also like to see some events on the Olympic distances, because this is the real territory in which the credibility of this sport is played.

On Friday 17th (the day that fans of the cabal consider particularly unfortunate) July 2020 a Regional Meeting took place in Eu, France with the now two usual events on the 5.000m track walk men and 3.000m track walk women.

Friday 17th will be viewed by cabalists as an unfortunate day, but not at all for Kevin Campion (FRA).

The transalpine walker already boasted a respectable personal best over this distance (18:44.79) established in Reims (FRA) on 28.6.2013 and had started with the usual idea of doing well.
His performance at the Meeting de Eu was very interesting as he set the clock in an excellent 18:57.40 in a solo race from the first to the last meter.
Second place to U20 Lucas Dreville (FRA) in 22:35.02,
Third place to Florent Beauval (FRA) in 22: 48.33.

This performance by Kevin Campion should be, except for mistakes, the new world season best and also the only performance under 19.00.00.
The previous season best belonged to Perseus Karlstrom (SWE) who had stopped the time trial in 19:06.68 last 7.3.2020 at Melbourne (AUS).
