Today on the tracks of the CGTD of Pontevedra the Galician Race Walk Championship of Winter was held, organized by the FGA and the Xunta de Galicia. Undoubtedly the truly spring weather, combined with the enormous motivation reflected on the track, contributed to favoring the achievement of good performances and overall records.
With this championship the Federacion Gallega de Atletismo wanted to honor a few days before his death the great spanish athletes Jordi Llopart who certainly was one of the ambassadors of the Cantones de La Coruna race walk.
Dolores Rojas remembers that Jordi Llopart returned to La Coruna in almost all editions after being, together with Sergio Vazquez, one of the creators. He didn't need invitations. It was known that it would come as always and it always had.
Jordi always defended the Cantones de la Coruna Grand Prix, and the march, his great passion, returning to the gear only partially the quarrel he had received from the specialty.
5.000m track walk women
In terms of results, the most important was the victory in the female category of the champion of Antía Chamosa Dacasa of the Gymnastics of Pontevedra, who with her fifth title today equals both Eva Iglesias and the male one of Jorge Ignacio Silva.
The women's race had been split into two finals to contain COVID-19 security measures.
Antia Camosa Dacasa (ESP) finished her race in 23:58.98
She immediately started in the lead and already at 1.000m (4:47.63) her advantage over the second was quite substantial.
At 3.000m the local star passed in 14:28.84 and at that moment the race could already be concluded.
The young Galician athlete did not want to force her pace in an attempt to get a new personal best (current of 23:01.68 obtained in Valencia, ESP on 28.4.2018) also because she is burdened with two red cards.
Second place to Iria Rivas Iglesias from Ría Ferrol (ESP) in 25:48.66
Third place in Alba Pérez Nieto (ESO) in 26:04.29
5.000m track walk men
The men's competition was also divided into two finals.
In the final of the accredited athletes of the best times, the surprise victory went to Juan Manuel Morales del Castillo (ESP) who managed to overcome the favorite Daniel Chamosa Dacasa (ESP) of Gimnástica de Pontevedra.
At the start, Juan Manuel Morales del Castillo immediately took the lead, passing the 1,000m in 4:14.36.
Immediately afterwards he was taken over by the favorite Daniel Chamosa Dacasa who at 3.000m took a clear advantage in 12:53.23
Daniel Chamosa comfortably led the race up to just under 500 meters from the finish when he was stopped in the penalty area for 30".
Green light then for the victory to Juan Manuel Morales del Castillo (ESP) who finished in 21:33.23 new personal best (previous of 21:38.72 established in Pentevedra, ESP on 20.7.2019)
Second place to Daniel Chamosa Dacasa (ESP) in 21:41.44
Third place went to Hugo Martínez Casanova (ESP) in 23:51.99
