Sad news reaches us.

 
At the age of 69, former Czechoslovakian and Slovakian walker, twice Olympic and historically first winner of the Dudince 50km in 1982, Pavol Szikora died after a long and serious illness.
 
Born in Lučenca (26.3.1952) until Matej Tóth beat him in 2009, for 22 years Pavol Szikora was the best walker in Slovakia in 50km with a personal best of 3:42:20 established in Dudince, then in Czechoslovakia, on 4.4.1987.
 
His results in major competitions were:

- Barcelona 1992 - 27th (4:17:49)
 
World Championships:
- Helsinki 1983 - 11 ° (3:59:03)
- Rome 1987 - 7th (3:49:44)
 
European Championships:
- Stuttgart 1986: 8th (3:51:35)
- Split 1990: DQ
 
The last farewell to Paul Szikora, who was an integral part of Juraj Bencík's strong walking training group of Dukla Banska Bystrica, will be Tuesday 25 May 2021 at 4.00 pm at the House of Sadness in the Fi l'akov cemetery.
