The Miraflores district will once again welcome the continent's athletes tomorrow Sunday, February 6, when the 2022 South American Walking Championships will be held in Lima, organized by the Peruvian Athletics Federation, in coordination with the Municipality of Miraflores.
 
The championship will see the participation of 108 athletes from 8 South American countries, including the best South American exponents of the sport, who will seek their qualification for the World Race Walking Championship, which will be held in early March in Muscat, Oman.
 
In a press conference held at the Town Hall, the deputy director of sport and leisure of the municipality, Jaime Rozeznic; the president of the Peruvian Athletics Federation, Javier Chirinos, and the treasurer of that entity, Ronaldo Solari, have announced the details of the sporting event. The latter highlighted the welcome provided by Miraflores.
 
As happened in March 2020 when the qualifying competition for the Tokyo Olympics took place, the emblematic José Larco Avenue will host dozens of South American athletes. The competition will start at 6:00 am. with events on 35 kilometers in male and female categories. To follow, the events of 20km, 10km. and 5km.
 
The Peruvian delegation is made up of 27 athletes, five of whom took part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Among these, Kimberly García, silver medalist at the Pan American Games in Lima 2019, who also took part in the streets of the district stands out. out.
 
The results of the U18 category will be taken into consideration to qualify for the Third South American Youth Games in Rosario (Argentina) and for the U20 World Championships to be held in Cali (Colombia).
