21/03/2022   Lashmanova banned for two years starting 9.3.2021 and has accepted the DQ of her results b/we 18 Feb 2012 & 3 Jan 2014.

In two tweets by Athletics Integrity Unity, the age-old problem that referred to the doping events that involved the Russian walker Yelena Lashmanova should be concluded.

We propose them below.

Brief history of events

Yelena Lashmanova, the Russian race walker who won the women’s 20km walk at the London 2012 Olympics and the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, has been banned for two years and had those global titles from 2012 and 2013 taken away. She is set to turn 30 next month and was still competing last year, albeit within Russia, where she clocked 1:25:41 in one competition and also won the Russian title with 1:27:52.

The Russian was also handed a ban from February 26, 2014, to February 25, 2016, after testing positive for a banned substance in a sample given on January 4, 2014. During this time there were reports she had flouted the ban and competed in Russia during that period too.

As a consequence, the AIU added that he will face two years of disqualification from March 9 of last year until March 8, 2023 and that her results from February 18, 2012 to January 3, 2014 will be canceled.

The variations in the results of the races are:

- The gold in the London 2012 women’s race walk would be Qieyang Shenjie, with Chinese team-mates Liu Hong and Lü Xiuzhi third and fourth that day obtaining silver and bronze after ten years.

- In Moscow in 2013 Lashmanova, the winner, was followed by Rusiian team-mate Anisya Kiryapkina (who has also served a doping ban and had her medal removed already) with Chinese athletes Liu Hong and Sun Huanuan third and fourth, then Italian Elisa Riguardo. Now the order of arrival should be: Liu Hong, Sun Huanhuan, Elisa Rigaudo.

Finally, it should be noted that the Russian should have been suspended as a precaution from 26.2.2014 to 25.2.2016 while she was regularly competing. In fact, she had scored 2:43:59 on the 35km walk in Russian winter Championships in Sochi last January 31, while last year she flew in 1:25:41 on the 20km at the Russian walking championships always in Sochi and winning the Russian title in Cheboksary in May.
