The preliminaries of the annual Hungarian Club Championships was splitted into two parts: East side and West side. In each region the first 6 teams get into the final which will be held in September.
The race walking section was hold in Miskolc (this city was the host of the European U23 Championships in 2006) and almost all of noted Hungarian walkers presented at the start line.
5.000m track walk men
In 23 Celsius and very humid conditions went the gang off, first with men's start.
It was an easy win for Máté Helebrandt who walked alone during the race and finished with a solid season best (20:24.53).
The second place went to Bence Venyercsán who raced first time since his injury (21:06.24).
The bronze went to Imre Csontos who is actually trying to change from running into race walking (22:05.85).
Norbert Tóth was the first U23 athlete and deserved the 4th place this time in 22:28:44.
5.000m track walk women
The womens race was mostly a tactical race, regarding of points. In the leading group was Viktória Madarász (3-times Olympian) and Barbara Olah (gold medalist of 20km national championships) and later joined Alexandra Kovács, the talented U18 walker to them.
After an easy but exciting walk, in the final battle the gold went to Barbara Olah (23:16.58), silver to Viktória Madarasz (23:37.23) and bronze to Alexandra Kovacs (23:37.92).
