12/07/2022   Eugene, Oregon 2022: entry lists are published

World Athletics has published the entry list for the four walking races of the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon 2022.
A very brief analysis

20km men

Toshikazu Yamanishi, world champion in Doha and bronze in Tokyo, is still the favorite along with fellow countrymen Eiki Takahashi, Koki Ikeda and Hiroto Jusho, Olympic silver, and Swede Perseus Karlstrom (formidable in the last 10km test).

The Chinese have not won since Moscow 2013 and so far they have remained covered for all the season, and moreover they still have to dissolve the decision on the three participants, as they have registered four athletes all of high level who will be able to compete for a medal (Cui Lihong, Liu Wenchao, Wang Kaihua and Zhang Jun)

The Spaniards (who have not won since Beijing 2015) are always to be considered for the top places with specialists such as Diego Garcia Carrera, Alberto Amezcua and Alvaro Martin, as well as the Brazilian Caio Bonfim, already bronze in 2017.

The outsiders are: David Kenny (IRL), Brian Daniel Pintado and David Hurtado both from Ecuador and Christopher Linke (GER)

Italy enters with two athletes: Francesco Fortunato, with the aim of finishing the top eight, and Gianluca Picchiottino.

35km men

At the baptism of fire of the world championship, the distance still sees the Japanese among the possible protagonists. Masatora Kawano, Daisuke Matsunaga and Tomohiro Noda, are entered with far better seasonal times than the others and all below 2:27:30

Miguel Angel Lopez (ESP), world champion on the 20km race in Beijing, is the only non-Japanese athlete to have an entry time of less than 2:29:00.

Massimo Stano (ITA) is also in good shape, who at the beginning of the season in Dudince won the second 35km of his career in 2:29:09.

China features a very good trio among which He Xianghong (2:29:35), Zhaxi Yangben and Xu Hao stand out. Everyone trained in Saluzzo in Italy where we personally saw them do some very high level jobs. We will see.

In our opinion, the outsiders are: Evan Dunfee (world and Olympic bronze in the 50 km), the gold medal from Tokyo in the 50 km, the Polish Dawid Tomala and Marc Tur (ESP).

The last variable to consider is given by the participation in the 35km also of some athletes who will round the 20km: Christopher Linke (GER), Eider Arevalo (COL), Brian Daniel Pintado (ECU), Caio Bonfim (BRA) and Perseus Karlstrom (SWE ).

A new, unexplored and interesting world opens up.

20km women

Five consecutive world titles to China, and it may not be over there.

The outgoing world champion Liu Hong who had decided to devote himself to something else is back in love with the 20km. Knowing her if she has returned to compete in her favorite race is certainly not to be a supporting actor, but rather to be a protagonist.

Together with Qieyang Shenjie (silver in Doha, Olympic gold in London), Ma Zhenxia can team up and cash at the medal stand, after the hat-trick in the Qatar furnace.

The Spanish Maria Perez is registered, but rumors say that she will only be at the start in the 35km).

Let's not forget Jemima Montag (AUS) and the Japanese couple Nanako Fujii and Kumiko Okada.

Then there is an interesting South American patrol led by the Peruvian Kimberly Garcia Leon with the Ecuadorian Glenda Morejon, Alegna Gonzalez and Valeria Ortuno (MEX).

Italy registers two athletes: the stainless Valentina Trapletti who if she manages to improve her personal best by going under 1:29:00 she could enter the top ten and Nicole Colombi with the aim of doing well.

35km women

Dudince's race gave clear indications on the contenders for the podium, the Chinese Qieyang Shenjie and Li Maocuo and the Peruvian Kimberly Garcia Leon. Qieyang has not lost a race over any distance this season and Garcia Leon out of six races she participated has recorded one win, four second places (three Qieyang count) and one third place.

Ecuador is fighting for a historic podium with specialists such as Glenda Morejon, Paola Perez and Magali Bonilla.

Spain presents Maria Perez and Laura Garcia-Caro who will certainly fight for a medal together with the athletes from Ecuador and the Greek Antigoni Ntrismpioti.
