28/07/2022   Budapest 2023: entry standard and quota ranking approved

The World Athletics Council has also approved the “entry standards” for the walking races for the next World Championships which will take place in Budapest in 2023 between the 19th and 27th of August.

The standards are as follows:

Men Event (quota) Women
1:20:10 20km race walk (50) 1:29:20
2:29:40 35km race walk (50) 2:51:30

The window valid for obtaining varies according to the events:
- for the 20km: from 31.1.2022 to 30.7.2023
- for the 35km: from 1.12.2021 to 30.5.2023

The entry standard are projected to provide of 50% of the quota in each event which in any case in the four walking races is always 25 units.
The remaining quota in each event will qualify either through world rankings, finishing positions at designated competitions, or by wild card.
Therefore, the goal of participating in a World Championship becomes more and more difficult, which increasingly turns into a spectacular elite competition.
