On the first day (15/10) of the Open Championships in Athletics of India, held in Bangalore, in the state of Karnataka, the 20km walking races were held on a road circuit and in the area surrounding the «Sree Kanteerava» Stadium.
Men's event started at 6:00 in the morning and the women's event 5 minutes later.
20km men
Seventeen athletes at the start in the men's event.
Just 4 seconds separated the athletes from the podium in a thrilling final.
Victory to Suraj Panwar, 21, representing the region of Uttrakhand, in 1:25:23, a mark close to his personal record of 1:25:11 obtained in Ranchi in April of this year.
Silver to Akshdeep Singh representing the region of Punjab in 1:25:26
Bronze to Paramjeet Singh Bisht in 1:25:27.


20km women
Eleven athletes at the start in the women's event.
Easy victory to the representative of RailWays, Ravina, 25 years old, who registered the mark of 1:34:55.
Second position and silver medal to 18 year old Vandana from the region of Karnataka in 1:37:19
Bronze medal to 20 year old Munita Prajapati from Uttar Pradesh in 1:37:49.
