01/12/2016   Trends of speed performances in women walking

Like every year at this time in the Statistics section were published graphs updated for trends of speed performances in road walking events. Starting this year, for the best readability of graphics, we limit the same to the last 20 years:

• 20 Km. Women - best (1997-2016)

• 20 Km. Women - average of the first 20 (1997-2016)

Short comment

The speed limits and averages expressed during the years 1997 and 1998 are still the ones that had been obtained in the 10km road walk.

The most important fact about the year 2016, however, is related to the suspension of the ARAF (Federation of Russia) from international competitions.

The athletes of that Country have competed as though their possible nationwide obtaining good results in their Winter Championships (in Sochi on Feb. 27, 2016) and Summer Championships (in Cheboksary on June 25, 2016)

To give our readers an accurate interpretation of how it moved the speed in the women's road races, Marcia dal Mondo decided to publish two separate charts:

a) one without the athletes of Russia

b) the other including also includes the athletes of Russia

At Italian level we like to point out that to form the average speed of the top 20 athletes of 2016 also contribute two Italian female athletes with the following performances

13,63 km/h - Elisa Rigaudo with the time of 1:28:03 obtained in Roma on May 7, 2016

13,63 km/h - Eleonora Anna Giorgi with the time of 1:26:05 obtained in Dudince on March 19, 2016
