Sergey Bakulin (RUS) had returned to compete on February 27, 2016 at the Winter Marching Championships in Sochi (RUS), after a pause that started from February 23, 20013 for a positivity.
Although he could not compete abroad for the well-known facts involving the Russian Federation he had achieved some very interesting times in the 20km men during 2017:
- February 18, 2017: still in Sochi he stopped the clock in an excellent 1:18:51 (behind Sergey Shirobokov) who had placed him in 5th place in the 2017 world list.
- June 10, 2017: in Cheboksary he had won the title of Champion of Russia on 20km in 1:20:38
A 2018 was expected for him again on the 50km.
In fact he had won the Russian Winter Championships in Sochi on 35km in 2:24:53 and then on 9.6.2018 with the victory at Cheboksary on 50km he had also established the personal best in 3:42:40 with some very regular passages:
- 10km: 44:21
- 20km: 1:28:27 (44:06)
- 30km: 2:11:59 (43:32)
- 40km: 2: 55.25 (43:06)
- Last 10km in 46:55
Unfortunately for him this result is canceled by the second disqualification for doping which makes it unelectable for eight years until 2.4.2017 and with cancellation of the results from 20.5.2018.
His name appears on the last list of athletes sanctioned for doping published by the Athletics Integrity Unit on October 29, 2019.
Last 21 August 2019 in our news ( click here ) we had published the news, but the athlete had reserved the possibility of resorting to the TAS. Now it seems that with this decision the athlete has renounced and put an end to the word.
